My oldest son Zach is an aspiring photojournalist. He’s been a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and is just about to finish up finally! Over the past year he’s been fortunate to have an internship at the Richmond Times Dispatch newspaper as well as working as a freelancer for the Associated Press Richmond Bureau.
He just posted some of his favorite images from the past year on his Tumblr blog. I’m really proud of his work. He has a nice eye and his enthusiasm for his work is refreshing. He sees images quite differently from me and has definitely developed his own style.
These are a few of my favorites. View the entire 2013 portfolio:
This first one is special to me. It’s my mom blowing out her candles at her 90th birthday party last March. My mom passed away unexpectedly in November and we cherish the pictures that Zach captured there.
These next two are from the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg.
Two guys “chicken-fighting” with whole fresh chickens as boxing gloves.
He seems to have a knack for sports, which is where I started.
Volleyball state championship game winner.
State championship soccer boys and girls.
Most recent assignment was a moonlit prayer vigil for Nelson Mandela.
